Praise for the Second Edition of The Executive Director’s Guide to Thriving as a Nonprofit Leader

“This book is a gift for nonprofit leaders in all stages of their careers. With clarity and profound simplicity, it dissects the otherwise overwhelming role of the nonprofit executive director into understandable components that can then be made workable (and even fulfilling!). It is a highly readable and practical road map for success.”
Molly Polidoroff, executive director, Center for Excellence in Nonprofits

The Executive Director’s Guide to Thriving as a Nonprofit Leader not only clearly and concisely identifies the most critical issues of nonprofit leadership, but it also provides the resources and answers to those challenges. It will be required reading for both the most seasoned executive as well as the emerging leader.”
Bill Coy, director of leadership practice, La Piana Consulting

“I provide The Executive Director’s Guide to Thriving as a Nonprofit Leader to all new executive directors placed by my firm. They find it to be a great resource during their orientation to a new organization, new people, and new challenges, and it continues to be a support as issues come up in their work over the years. It’s comprehensive and sensible, and the authors’ great knowledge and respect for nonprofit executives shine through.”
Susan Egmont, consultant, Egmont Associates

Mim and Margaret now provide real-life, real-time help in coaching and guiding executive directors from survival to success. I can’t think of a more important contribution in today’s drive to strengthen the sector.”

Being new to the Non-Profit arena, I was looking for an insider’s guide. I found it in this book. It has specific examples and suggestions that pertain to daily life as an ED. I know that it will always be with me as a reference guide for what and what not to do..

The Executive Director’s Guide to Thrive as a Nonprofit Leader is an excellent book that serves as an extensive review over all of the major responsibilites of that an Executive Director (ED) will face in her/his career. It is a very practical read for anyone like myself who is just beginning to enter the nonprofit sector. Although the introduction claims it can be for any part of a nonprofit, it is written to an audience that is either curently or seeking this position. For anyone who is concerned with limited time, this book is a valuable resource for self-improvement as well as a resource to keep at hand.

The book was introducted to me as the primary reading for a graduate course on nonprofit management, but it was very easy to read as well as informative. I am recommending it to several of my friends who seek an ED position to better help them grow in their careers as nonprofit professionals.

I received this book as a gift when I was an Executive Director of a small nonprofit. It was very helpful to me, learning the ropes of what to do as an ED.

I recently gave it as a gift to my ED at the nonprofit where I currently work. I hope he finds it as useful as I did.

This book won’t be on the bookshelf – it will be in my desk drawer! Easy to read. Spells out all of what you should know but no one has ever articulated. Full of very real life examples that cross a lot of applications. A valuable gift to ALL the leadership of a non-profit organization.

This book is an indispensable combination of practical advice and guidance from experience for those treading the hazardous but rewarding non-profit waters. I learned a lot which I can directly apply to my situation and I suspect others will have the same experience. It is an easy read from two professionals who have been there and done that. Regardless of your particular role in the non-profit environment, the Warnings and Wisdoms that are scattered thoroughout the book are worth reading.
